Welcome to Song's Martial Arts

Grandmaster Song has over 45 years of experience in the martial arts, both in training and teaching. Born in South Korea, Grandmaster Song began his martial arts training at a young age. In 1975, he moved to the United States to attend Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Shortly thereafter he developed and taught martial arts at several universities. After completing a degree in electrical engineering, he realized Tae Kwon Do was a more meaningful life and started his own school. Grandmaster Moonsung Song has long focused on helping students develop good character who will use the principles of martial arts to help them throughout their lives. |

Derek Chiu (4 th Dan) Mr. Chiu has been a student of Master Song since the early 90’s starting as a young child then progressing to 4th Dan. Mr. Chiu is married to Emily and teaches Spanish at Collinsville high school. |

Deborah Beal (4th Dan) Ms. Beal has studied martials arts since 1986, first as a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia, then coming to Songs Martial Arts in 1990. In her other life, she’s a mother to Lauren, a student at the University of San Diego and a college professor (of Environmental Biology) at Illinois College. She's interested also been studying Korean Zen Buddism and Taoism. |

Mr. Metzger (2nd Dan) is a college student in his “other” life, studying education at SWIC. He also teaches Tae Kwon Do at New Enterprise Academy in O’Fallon. He’s been a student at Song’s for over 10 years. A fitness fanatic, Mr. Metzger can be found biking or running throughout O’Fallon, Fairview Heights. Steven is the primary instructor, teaching every day at Songs! He’s also the administrator for our Song’s Martial Arts facebook page so send him all your photos, videos or comments you want to see posted on facebook. |
| Mr. Albrecht | Keith Albrecht has studied martial arts since the mid 70's, studying several different styles before coming to Song's in 1995. |
| Mr. McCovey | Ken McCovey (3rd Dan) has been studying martial arts at Songs almost as long as Ms. Beal (but not quite!). He's married and has a 6 year old daughter. |

Scott Haller (2nd Dan)is an air traffic controller working for the Department of Defense. He and his family moved to the area in 1997. He and three other family members started studying taekwondo with Master Song in 2003. A fifth member started in 2009. Mr Haller has also studied wing chung and Brazilian jiu jitsu. He is an avid physical fitness practitioner, enjoys coking, and studies the works of the renowned Buddhist authors Chee Ha Pedt and Kai Sedia. Sarah Adams (2nd Dan) has been a student at Songs since 2003. She's a student at McKendree College and teaches the kids class on Wednesdays. She can be bribed with Candy...... |
